TRY THE LOCAL BREW
We start the tour with a stop at the newly opened Svalbard Bryggeri. We'll get a taste of the local produced beer, and we get the full story how it's to run your own brewery at 78 degrees north.
POLAR PERMA CULTURE
Then we will go through the city, where we pass the remains from the time where trappers traveled to Svalbard to hunt foxes, seals and polar bears. We are surrounded by mountains which houses wildlife. We stop in the green greenhouse and tastes on equity herbs!
CHAMPAGNE OR WINE, AND CHOCOLATE
The distance between the miners and officials have always been great. We stop either at "Spitsbergen Hotel" or "Huset" (The house), and get a taste of champagne or wine, depending on season.
At Spitsbergen Hotel we'll get the story of the social differences in Longyearbyen, from the rich and wealthy to the workers in the coal mines.
Spitsbergen Hotel used to be the place where alcohol was rationed and handed out to the workers and people living in Longyearbyen. We'll visit the place that is now used as a champagne cellar, where you'll get a taste of some exclusive beverage.
The house was centrally located and was therefore called the city's heart. It was neutral midway between class distinction, between miners and officials. Today, instead one of Northern Europe's best wine cellars where we will be served a glass of wine and hear the story of the house and cellar.
Price includes bus transportation in Longyearbyen, with a digital explanation of some of the main sights we pass on the way, a tiny little taste along the way, and a good drink. There is no guide on the trip, but host who welcomes guests at all the places we visit.
The tour is held Monday, Wednesday and Saturday throughout the year.
Attendance and the tour starts at Radisson Blu Polar Hotel.
